The Oaks Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary was chartered in 1949 to support the fire company’s efforts in raising funds to support the purchase of facilities, apparatus, and miscellaneous equipment as well as provide refreshments for the firefighters during and after major incidents. Over the years the mission has changed but the dedication of the Auxiliary membership has not waned.
Today’s Auxiliary performs the same basic function of supporting the fire company but has expanded its role to supporting the fire company’s community outreach programs through the “Fire Prevention Open House” in October, “Santa visits Oaks” in December and “Easter Egg Hunt” in the spring as well as outreach programs to the sick and elderly within the area. The Auxiliary raises funds through its Holiday Craft Fair, Election Day Soup Sale, and various other fund raising events.
In preparation for the 100th Anniversary Celebration and Parade the Auxiliary raised funds and purchased Dress Uniforms for the firefighters and fire police. Annually the members of the Auxiliary meet with the Fire Company to identify needs and schedule events that will support the raising of the required funds. They also fund improvements to the James R. Mossie Hall, the Fire Company’s banquet facility, and the full service kitchen associated with the Hall.
The Auxiliary is open to spouses of firefighters as well as local community members who wish to participate in this worthy organization. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month September through June at 7PM at the Fire Station or you can contact us at oaksladiesaux@comcast.net
